What it does

openecon-data is an MCP server that equips AI agents with access to comprehensive economic data from major global data sources. It aggregates over 330,000 economic indicators covering inflation, GDP, employment, trade, and financial metrics from FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data), World Bank, IMF, Eurostat, and additional sources. The tool enables natural language queries of economic data and provides visualization capabilities through both a web UI and programmatic API.

How to set up

Installation involves setting up the MCP server via Python, configuring API credentials for the data sources, and deploying either locally or to a server. The project includes FastAPI backend configuration and React-based web UI setup.
